PlanetThereia
The MetaVerse of There consists in the main part of a large mostly water-covered planet and the objects on its surface. At some point, members decided they needed a name for the planet as distinct from the MetaVerse as a whole: after all, maybe one day there will be more than one planet… the name members decided on in the end was Thereia.
Inhabitants of PlanetThereia (avatars) are referred to as Thereians. Avatars belonging to the staff of There, Inc. are sometimes referred to as ThereIncians (prior to There passing to the ownership of MakenaTechnologies).
Expressed in terms of the basic “scale metres” used for all linear measurements in the MetaVerse, PlanetThereia is a perfect sphere with a radius of six million metres. This makes the arc from the north pole of the planet to the equator across the surface approximately 9.425 million metres, or 9425 kilometres (km). A hoverboat travelling at around 100km/h will thus take around 95 hours to make the journey from CalderaIsland to the north pole.
This particular size of planet was presumably chosen to be very similar in size to planet Earth in the real universe. The original definition of the metre by the French Academy of Sciences was as one ten-millionth of the surface distance from the north pole to the equator (along a meridian passing through Paris, naturellement). By this comparison, PlanetThereia is around 94% the linear dimensions of Earth. Of course, we are all taller in the MetaVerse (male avatar stands 2.4m high (CheckThis) instead of under 2m in the real world) and a measure taking this into account makes PlanetThereia around 80% of the linear dimensions of Earth in “avatar scale” with perhaps 60% of the surface area.
